Android (4.0+): Facebook home is only officially available for a handful of devices, but if you want to give it a try, some enterprising devs at the XDA Developers Forum tweaked the app so it?ll work on any Android device.
Facebook Home, Facebook?s heavily customized launcher and Android UI replacement, was pretty easy to tweak to run on any Android device, according to the folks at XDA. In fact, you don?t even need root access to trick the app into thinking you have a phone you don?t. You can grab it from the link below, but before you do, make sure that you have completely uninstalled the Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and any other Facebook Home apps you already have on your phone, or else it won?t work. From there, here?s what to do:
- Download and extract the archive here.
- Install (or sideload) both the Facebook and Facebook Home APKs on your device.
- Visit the Facebook app settings page (Home > Settings > Facebook) and check ?enable? next to Facebook Home.
- Download the Facebook Messenger with Chat Heads fix, and extract it.
- Install the APK.
The first two APKs from the first archive are modified to get Facebook Home on your device, but the new Chat Heads feature won?t work. The second APK fixes Chat Heads so it works on any phone. In fact, CNET reports that Chat Heads is just Facebook Messenger, so if you?d rather have that without the rest of Facebook Home, you can get it too. Just grab the latest version and enable it in the Facebook notification settings. Hit the two links below to grab the APKs from XDA, or to just get the latest Facebook Messenger app from Google Play.
